Our Community, Our Investment

The $410 million capital referendum was unanimously authorized by the locally-elected Board of School Commissioners of the Indianapolis Public Schools in December 2022, and it will appear on the May 2023 ballot.

This would result in a $3 monthly investment in the future of our IPS schools by the average homeowner and assist the district in funding facility upgrades and new construction as indicated in the district's Rebuilding Stronger Plan. For more information on the capital referendum, please go to myips.org/2023referendum .

You can determine the future of IPS and make a difference for its 31,000 students. If authorized, IPS will upgrade and improve the elementary and middle schools in our district.

Your Yes! vote will help:

  • Renovate all elementary and middle school buildings in IPS within eight (8) years.

    • According to a facilities analysis, more than 30% of IPS buildings are currently classified as being in "poor" condition. We will improve our school facilities for our 31,000 students thanks to the referendum.

  • Ensure that IPS kids are learning in safe, warm and welcoming buildings.

  • Together with programmatic changes, take care of the most pressing facility issues.

    • Investments are being made in more than 20 schools, including several Innovation partners.

  • Provide access to practice and playing fields fit for competition for all middle school pupils.

    • Outstanding athletic facilities, on par with those at other local schools, will be available at Broad Ripple, Northwest, Arlington, and Howe.
